Busy or Blind - July 2009

-Back to school is just around the corner and school supply lists are being posted on school websites for early shoppers to take advantage of the sale prices in stores. These school supply lists often include supplies that are for the teacher and not the student. So what does your child really need?

The Backpack - Kids need a backpack, but make sure not to buy the ones with wheels. Many schools do not allow these backpacks.

The Pencils - More and more schools are allowing kids to use only traditional pencils as opposed to the mechanical type.

The Pencil Sharpener - These should be bought in bulk as kids often forget them at school or lose them all together. The battery powered pencil sharpeners are not cost effective and break easily.

The Paper - Both loose leaf and spiral bound paper need to be bought in bulk. These will be used throughout the year.

The Crayons - Despite the fact that some schools tell kids they need to buy the name brand crayons, they are all placed in one large bin, in most cases. The generic brand may be the best brand.

Stay tuned for more school supplies and the best lists for kids who want to buy what they really need for school.
